Wikipedia says: A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others in the field of software development, like graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software-related projects. At the Nerd-Zone HacKAthon in Karlsruhe more than 50 coder worked hard within 24 hours to program an app which should be useful for nerdy residential communities.

Enthusiasm for a job has a lot to do with the environment at work. The IT industry in Karlsruhe/Germany, which is desperately seeking skilled workers, recognized this and launched the campaign „Nerd-Zone“ – a joint venture of over 20 IT-companies and the association of the local IT-branch CyberForum e.V. As a part of this campaign the „Nerd-Zone Hackathon“ is happening on 16./17.06.2012 – a competition on the development of an app in 24 hours.
