“codeFEST8” happend from 6th to 8th of March 2015, at eight universities and in three countries simultaneously. This has never happened before in the automotive industry and was the biggest hackathon in this branch. The winning teams from the preliminary round travelled in mid-March to CeBIT to compete in the grand finale. The total prize money was more than 25.000 €.

Venues were: RWTH Aachen, TU Berlin, TU Braunschweig, TU Dresden, TU Munich, Vienna University of Technology, ETH Zurich and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). Have a look: www.volkswagen-codefest.de

On March 23rd and 24th our Nerd Zone DevCamp took place in Karlsruhe. Host of the camp was Gameforge AG. Over 100 participants have shared several themes of software development and were able to get in touch with local IT-companies such as Exxeta AG, Unic GmbH, Brandmaker GmbH, Der Punkt GmbH and Synyx GmbH.

Wikipedia says: A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is an event in which computer programmers and others in the field of software development, like graphic designers, interface designers and project managers, collaborate intensively on software-related projects. At the Nerd-Zone HacKAthon in Karlsruhe more than 50 coder worked hard within 24 hours to program an app which should be useful for nerdy residential communities.

Enthusiasm for a job has a lot to do with the environment at work. The IT industry in Karlsruhe/Germany, which is desperately seeking skilled workers, recognized this and launched the campaign “Nerd-Zone” – a joint venture of over 20 IT-companies and the association of the local IT-branch CyberForum e.V. As a part of this campaign the “Nerd-Zone Hackathon” is happening on 16./17.06.2012 – a competition on the development of an app in 24 hours.
